The Bramble Knights

The Bramble Knights
Once the Bramble Knights were great Heroes of Crystalia. The statues erected in their honor were timeless memorials to the brave warriors who defended the kingdom and Fae Wood with their lives.
When The Forgotten King sought to challenge the rightful rule of Crystalia, the Bramble Knights sworn to him marched under his banner. Bitter civil war raged throughout the realm. Only when the elves of the Fae Wood joined the fight were the Forgotten King’s forces finally stopped.
As punishment for their treachery the once gallant Bramble Knights shared The Forgotten King’s fate. Cursed by their own treasonous lord they were transformed into chimera. No longer human, nor beast, they became monsters and were banished to the Lordship Ruins. Centuries later they still dwell within its crumbled halls, nurturing old hates, and plotting their re-emergence under the Dark Consul’s banner.
At the edge of the Fae Wood, there lies the border to the Glauerdoom Moor. This is a particularly dread location, and the Cursed Knights of the Moorlands make this their home. Having long forsaken their duty to The Forgotten King, these twisted chimera have fallen under the thrall of Nightsong the Eternal. Equally as cruel as they are deathless.
Beyond the markers and borders of the Lordship Ruins the curse even extended to his scouts and assassins. These elite knights, without a mission, cursed to walk as chimera, pillage and rain havoc as bandits. The dread effort to find purpose amidst the carnage is all that binds their fleeting sanity to this world.

Grobbits
The executioners are infamous foes to all the people of Crystalia. Even before the curse that turned The Forgotten King and his followers into bestial chimera, the Bramble Knight Executioners were terrifying figures. With powerful sweeps of their axes, they performed the grim duty with unsettling satisfaction. Now, they employ their axes with unabandoned cruelty and cleave through Heroes with wicked delight.
Versions of these terrible enemies exist as part of both Bandit and Cursed Knight warbands. Deathlords have lost all trace of their former human selves. As centuries have passed, the cursed magic which keeps them alive has degraded their minds and sharpened their appetite for cruelty. This otherness radiates from them in waves of despair, shattering foes' resolve and even robbing the desire to flee as the Deathlord mercilessly cuts through their ranks.
Some Grobbits have escaped to the Dragonback Peaks, seeking shelter in the snaking paths and forgotten caverns found there. Alone and bitter, their minds have begun to change just like their bodies. Over the years their humanity has slipped away, leaving them as bestial and feral within as they are on the outside.
Frog Knights
Mounted on battle-hardened Squawks, Frog Knights attempt to hold true to their former chivalrous past. With great leaps they manoeuvre through the battle to engage a worthy foe in single combat. Win or lose, such a duel is their highest honor.
This is an area where they depart in difference from their Cursed and Bandit brethren. The Cursed Skull Riders are shadowy and secretive, slinking at the back of their lines until the right moment comes to snatch victory. Skull Squawk knights are a secretive bunch. In fact, there are none who can recall ever seeing one outside of their armor or sharing a single word with another. This shadowy aloofness, combined with Skull Squawk's uncanny supernatural abilities lead many to wonder if they are truly within the realm of the living at all.
The Marauders are fearsome outriders, caring little for their chivalric roots and more about the booty they can collect. The Bramble Knight cavalry who aided in the shadow are against the forces of Crystalia became the fearsome Marauder Squawks when their bitter lord cursed all of his forces. Unlike other knights who were bound by chivalry and honor, these marauders were masters of thieving, spying, and dirty fighting tactics.
Billmen
Though not full fledged knights, the Billmen made up the majority of the Forgotten Kings personal guard. Nonetheless, they were held in high esteem for their courage and skill at arms. Exemplary service within the Billmen could elevate one to the rank of Bramble Knight.
During the Forgotten King’s uprising, Billmen made up the primary bulk of his forces. Most of these stalwart warriors marched off to battle not knowing of their master’s treason. They dutifully fought in the war believing their cause was just and in the service of the Goddess.
For this reason the Billmen are often seen as the most tragic of figures, unwittingly serving a dark master and doomed to share his fate. The Cursed Militia and Bandits feel the full weight of the betrayal of throwing in their lot with The Forgotten King. The Cursed Militia found new purpose in the bosom of Nightsong's fledgling empire, while the Bandits continue to steal everything not nailed down to fill that gaping hole in their hearts left from being cursed so.
